Table 1: Todd Cook & Ray Ressler  vs Matt Ressler & Kathy Wnuk:

The score really didn’t reflect how the match was played in week 7. Most of the match was given a way’s by one team or the other. Todd seemed to be the only one that could get anything going for most of the match. Matt and Kathy just couldn’t  seem get anything going with some very uncharacteristic misses at the most critical times. The 8 Ball Set saw Todd and Ray take the opening game, as Todd got things going with a nice finish in game 1. Ray and Todd put together a nice finish in game 2, as they got several breaks from their opponents. Kathy and Matt got on the board with some timely shooting, some key misses by the opponents and they won game 3. The fourth game favored Todd and Ray again. Both Todd and Ray made some nice shots and kept their opponents from getting any momentum with some very tough leaves. Ray and Todd continued their winning ways as they nailed down game 5. Kathy and Matt finally got enough good leaves to make the shots in game 6 to put another win on their sheet as the set ends in the favor of Todd and Ray with a 4-2 lead in the match. Matt and Kathy started out the 9 Ball Set posting the first win, with some great shooting by both Kathy and Matt. They were able to keep Todd and Ray off the table with some key blocks in the game. Ray and Todd put together some nice shots and took game 2. Kathy and Matt again rebounded with some very nice shot making and took game 3, now leading by a game in the set. Things seemed to change quickly for Ray and Todd in game 4. Todd had a 5 ball run to get out and seemed to shift the advantage back to his team. It was Ray finding a 6-9 combo in game 5 to take the game and then they finished off the set, posting the win in game 6 and give them three wins in a row.  Matt and Kathy got things going in the 10 Ball Set, with some very nice shooting by both players to post the win in game one of the set. It ended too quickly for them as Todd and Ray put together back to back wins in games 2 and 3 as they punished the opponents every time they missed. Kathy and Matt stopped the opponents two game run as they nailed down the win in game 4. Again, Matt and Kathy stalled with too many misses and left the door open for their opponents. Ray and Todd notched wins in the final two games to finish off the set with a 4-2 win. A valiant effort by Kathy and Matt and nice shooting by Todd and Ray. Todd did relay that his back was sore, with so much weight on it, so hopefully it will feel better next week.

Todd Cook & Ray Ressler (12) –  Matt Ressler & Kathy Wnuk  (6)

Table 2: Tracey Krol(abs) & Jacob Ressler vs Tony Parpart(abs) & Eddie McKinley: This turned into a match with Jacob playing against Eddie as neither Tracey and Tony were there for league night. This match featured several combination shots posted in the 9 ball and 10 ball games by both players. Eddie has been playing very well lately and took the first game in the 8 Ball Set. With some nice shooting, Jake tied up the set taking game 2. It was Eddie then putting the hammer down, with some great shooting and position play, as he nailed down the wins in games 3, 4 and 5, assuring him of the set win. Jake finished off the final game with some nice shooting himself, and some unforced errors by Eddie. Eddie takes a two game lead in the match. Just like the first set, Eddie got off to a first game win in the 9 Ball Set. After Eddie broke in game 2, Jake ended the game rather quickly as he posted his first of 4 combination wins. He used the 1 ball to nail the win in game 2. Jake broke in game 3 and again, got a set up with the 1 ball setting up near the 9 ball. He nailed his second 1-9 combo in game 3. Jake continued to roll along, with some nice safety play that kept Eddie from getting a good start, and nailed down the win in game 4, without the use of a combo. Eddie had his chance in game 5, as the 3 ball nestled up by the 9 ball. Eddie converted the combination to take game 5. He closed out the set with a win in game 6 and this set was split at 3 games each. The 10 Ball Set got off to a very nice start for Eddie as he was able to find another combination win. This time using the 6 ball to pocket the 10 ball. Eddie continued to keep the momentum going, nailing down the win in game 2. I think I will just have to give Jake a nickname in this match. He is going to be know as “The Combo King” in this match, as he accounted for four wins using other balls to post wins. This came about in game 3 as he ended the game with a pretty quick win using the 3 ball to nail the 10. He broke in game 4 and made even quicker work in this game by using the 1 ball to drop the 10 ball into a pocket for the second win in a row via the combo route. Eddie found a way in game 5 to use his own skills as the found a three ball combination to nail down the win. He nailed a 3-9-10 to win game 5. The final game of the set saw a few misses by Jake continued to give Eddie his opportunity to run balls and take the final game of the set. Jake turned in a pretty good performance with several combo wins. Good try Jake. Eddie continues his nice shooting and position play as he takes this match by 4 points. Nice shooting Eddie.

Eddie McKinley (11)  – Jacob Ressler (7).

Table 3: Walter Wnuk & John Killett vs Scott Kroll & Janet Nihls(abs):

With Janet absent, Scott got the chance to shoot twice as many times and made the best of it against two very good shooters. Scott nailed a game winner in the first game of the 8 Ball Set to get off to a good start. John and Walter kept Scott a little off balance with some nice hooks and took game two. If anything for Walter and John could go wrong, it did. Scott got too many chances to capitalize on mistakes and nailed down winners in games 3, 4 and 5. Walter and John then put together a good game with Walter doing what he does best, making balls. With the win, Scott still took the set with a 4-2 win. Scott again got on the winning track in game one of the 9 Ball Set. All of a sudden, the momentum shifted back to John and Walter. John had his problems with some missed opportunities but Walter continued to shoot well, and they were able to put the next three wins on their side of the score sheet, giving them a chance to even up the match with one more win. The final two games were split, as Scott stopped the 3 game run to take game 5 and Walter and John nailed the win in game 6 to evened up the match at 6 games each. This set the stage for the 10 Ball Set with the teams tied up with 6 games to go. For the third set in a row, Scott got on the score sheet first with some pretty nice shooting in the game. Again, with two good shooters, its hard to keep them contained. John seemed to get back into stroke and Walter continued his fine shooting. They took game 2 as they were able to capitalized on missed shots by Scott. They continued to keep him a bit cold even with him getting two shots in each rack. It was all Walter and John in game 3 and then Walter nailed down a 3-10 combo in game 4, giving he and John a 3-1 lead in the set. Scott stopped the mini run by the opponents at three, as he nailed a 4-10 combo in game 5. The pool Gods continued to stay on his side as he made the ten ball to take game 6 and the match ended up in a tied match. Good shooting by all.

Walter Wnuk & John Killett (9) – Scott Kroll (9)

Table 4: Keith Nickel(abs) & Alvin Kelley vs George Sharbo(abs) & Linda Kujat:

I have to list this as the match of the night. With the Leader of the league playing against a novice player, who continues to improve her game. This turned out to be a one on one match like the one on table two, as two players were absent for this weeks match. Got to give it to a real gentleman, Alvin Kelley, who gave a lot of instruction to a novice player and did not take advantage of the situation. With the ability that Alvin has displayed, he certainly gave his opponent more than a fair chance to score points. Alvin notched wins in the first two games of the 8 Ball Set with some very nice shot making. He played great position and displayed some very nice shooting ability. Linda got a few extra chances given to her by Alvin and she was able to post a win in game 3. Alvin continued to dominate the games and took the wins in games 4, 5 and 6. He continued to display great sportsmanship with continually helping Linda to shoot various shots. Alvin takes a 5-1 lead in the match. Alvin continued to shoot well and with the win in the first game of the 9 Ball Set made it four straight wins. He made quick work in the 2nd game as he put a 3-9 combination in to win his 5th game in a row. Linda got the chance to stop the run, as she made some very nice shots and notched a win in game 3. She continued to get some extra chances and made good with some good shooting and put the win in game 4 on her side of the sheet. Alvin didn’t miss very many shots in the final two games of the set and extended his lead in the match to 6 games. Linda got off to a very good start in the 10 Ball Set, seeing her leave Alvin some tough starting shots, that led to her advantage. She nailed the first game in the set and then continued to get some great opportunities and took advantage by posting the win in game 2. After a back forth battle in game 3, Alvin nailed a 7-10 combo to take the game. Again, a few misses by Alvin opened up the door for Linda and she made good by taking game 4, assuring her of at least a split in the set. Alvin got his second combo win in the set as he shortened game 5 with a 4-10 combo win. He went on to capture game 6 and the set was split 3 games each. It was a very good match, with Alvin showing his great sportsmanship in the match, and Linda showed some promising improvements with some great instructions from Alvin.
