           Week 15 of League 27 – Winter 2022:

We are in our 16th week of our regular scheduled competition matches before the final position round in week 17. Walter maintains a 10 point lead over two players, Kelley and Ray, who are tied for 2nd place after last weeks matches. Walter continues to shoot well and has won 7 straight matches. George who maintains 4th place has also won 7 straight matches. George continues to shoot well and is only (8) points out of second place. This will be a pivotal week for all of the leaders going into the position round.

Table 1: Kathy Wnuk & George Sharbo vs  Janet Nihls & Todd Cook:

Todd and Janet had their hands full shooting against some good competitors last week. Kathy and George struck first to open the 8 Ball Set to take game 1. It was all Janet and Todd in games 2 and 3 as they continued to make the shots count when they needed to, keeping George and Kathy subdued with some nice safety play. You can’t stop good players from getting back into a nice shooting rhythm, as what Kathy and George did in games 3 & 4 to take the lead in the set. Janet and Todd finished off the set, taking game 6 with some nice shooting. This set ended in a 3-3 tie to get things going in the match. George and Kathy opened the 9 Ball Set posting the first win in the set. Todd and Janet answered with some very nice shot making and key safety shots to keep the opponents off balance a little. Kathy nailed a 1-9 combo to finish off game 3 very quickly putting her team in the lead again. Janet and Todd then nailed down the win in game 4, but seemed to stall some, as Kathy and George kept them from getting any good starting shots in the final two games. They coasted through games 5 & 6 to take a 2 game lead in the match, with a 4-2 set win. George and Kathy continued to win, and opened the 10 Ball Set with back-to-back wins in game 1 & 2. Janet and Todd matched them with back-to-back wins in game 3 & 4. That would be all that Kathy and George would give up in the set as they notched the final two games to close out the set with 4-2 win. The final two sets gave them a 4 point match win. It was a very good try by Todd and Janet with some nice shooting. Good shooting and defensive play gave this match to Kathy and George. Good job and shooting by all.

Table 2: Scott Kroll & Linda Kujat  vs Matt Ressler & Alvin Kelley: This was going to be a very tough match for Scott and Linda as they were pitted against two of the top players in the league. Kelley is tied for 2nd with his partner Matt hanging on to 6th place. Matt and Kelley opened the 8 Ball Set nailing a win to start the match. A couple of misses and some good starting positions for Linda and Scott put them in the drivers seat and they proceeded to nail back-to-back wins in games 2 & 3. Kelley and Matt seemed to get back on track in game 4, with some great position play and went on to nail wins in the next three games. When Kelley wasn’t shooting, Matt continued to step up and drain winners to help he and Kelley take the rest of the games in the set. This gave Kelley and Matt a 4-2 lead to start the match. Matt and Kelley continued where they left off in 8 ball with the opening two wins to start the 9 Ball Set. After taking game 1 with some impressive shooting by both Matt and Kelley, game two ended a bit quicker. Kelley nailed a 2-9 combo giving them a 2-game lead in the set. Linda answered with her own combo in game 3, as she drained a 4-9 put her team on the scoresheet. The magic continued for Scott and Linda by some untimely misses by their opponents as they nailed down the win in game 4 to even up the set at 2 games each. Matt and Kelley notched game 5 and finished off the set with Kelley pounding in a 1-9 combo to close out the set with another 4-2 win and giving them a 4 point lead in the match. Linda and Scott opened the 10 Ball Set nailing the opening game win with some nice shooting by both players. That was all the opponents would relinquish in this set as Matt put a 5-10 combo in the pocket in game 2. Kelley and Matt continued to take advantage of the misses by their opponents and put the wins on the sheet for games 3 & 4, Kelley drained another combination shot with the 1-10 to end that game quickly. Matt and Kelley finished off game 6 and the match was over. It was a good try and effort by Linda and Scott. Very nice shooting by Kelley and Matt.

Table 3:  Ray Ressler & Tracey Krol vs Jake Ressler & Tony Parpart (absent):

This turned out to be a pretty close match after the 8 Ball Set was finished. Tracey and Ray got out quickly in the set, with Tracey making some nice shots to close out two of the 6 games in the set.  Ray worked around a few good safeties made by Jake who was shooting pretty decent throughout the match. He just missed at the most inopportune times and Ray and Tracey made it work in their favor with all the chances to win games. They pounded out win after win, taking all 6 games in the set to take a huge lead in the match. Jake had several good runs, but had trouble closing out the games. Jake relayed he doesn’t really like 8 ball and that he favors 10 ball more. But what happened in the 9 Ball Set, says he might like nine ball just as much as ten ball. Jake got several opportunities in the set and capitalized on each one. He banged in 4 balls in game 1 to open the set with the first win. He posted a 3 and out win in game 2. He mastered the ability to hook Ray and Tracey throughout the set and notched the first four games in the set. Ray put a stop to the four game run as he nailed a 2-9 combo in game 5. Jake finished the set taking game 6 and just like that, Jake turned a possible rout to a very close match. With a 5-1 win in nine ball, Jake now only trailed by 2 points in the match. Tracey and Ray got a few gifts from Jake in the 10 Ball Set with misses that helped them win the first couple of games. They made some nice shots and kept Jake a little off balance with some nice safety shots. Jake got a decent chance for a combination shot in game 3, finding the 5-10 to close out game 3. The magic continued for Jake in game 4 as he broke the balls and the 10 ball dropped into the side pocket, and his only complaint was, that he didn’t even get a chance to see it drop. He has now tied up the set at 2 games each. Tracey and Ray took game five with some nice shooting and the matched ended as Ray nailed a 4-10 combination after getting a ball in hand chance in game 6. It was a pretty good contest as all the players played pretty decent throughout the match. Good shooting by all in a very close match.

Ray Ressler & Tracey Krol (11) – Jacob Ressler (7)

Table 4: Walter Wnuk & Eddie McKinley vs John Killett & Keith Nickel:

Walter continues to play well, and with another good shooter, Eddie McKinley, as his partner, the opposition was going to be in a bit of trouble. Eddie  and Walter nailed down the first game winner to start the 8 Ball Set. A few openings by Walter and Eddie opened door number 2 and John and Keith took full advantage and put a win on the scoresheet. Unfortunately for Keith and John, that would be the last win they say in this first set. Eddie and Walter continued to take advantage of miss shots by the opponents and posted win after win. It was the next four straight games to finish off the set and take a 5-1 set win. Both Walter and Eddie played very well in the set and gave their opponents very few chances to win games. When Eddie wasn’t running out the games, Walter stepped in and did. Walter and Eddie continued to shoot well, and put the first 9 ball into a pocket for the opening win of the 9 Ball Set. Walter made quick work in game 2 as he dropped in a 1-9 combination to take game 2. If you think that was a quick game, it wasn’t as fast as game 3. Walter broke and made the 9 ball on the break and that gave them a 7 game run without a loss. Keith and John finally got on the winning side, as Keith drained a 2-9 combination in game 4 to end that game quick. John and Keith nailed down another win in game 5, with some good safety leaves to keep the opponents from getting back into the rhythm they had going in the first set. The final game saw Walter again get a chance to end the game before all the balls were in, as he pounded in a 6-9 to end the set. This gave Eddie and Walter a 9 to 3 match lead heading into the 10 Ball Set. It looked like the McKinley/Wnuk team would continued their winning ways in the set as Walter opened the set with a 10 ball on the break. That seemed like it was the momentum booster for their team, but things changed quickly for them, and not for the better. After a few missed shots by both teams, John steppe up and dropped in a 4-9 combination in game 2. That appears to be just what the doctor ordered as they got more chances to catch up in the match. Keith and John put together wins in games 3, 4 and 5 as they were able to keep the opponents from getting good starting shots. This gave them a four-game run and made this a closer match. Unfortunately, they stalled after the four game surge and lost the final game of the set as Walter and Eddie win the match by 4 points. It was a very good effort and try by Keith and John. Nice shooting by Eddie and Walter. Walter continues to maintain a 10 point lead over two players tied for 2nd.
